MELVIN COX
Managing Director and Senior Producer

During a thirty-three year career, Melvin Cox has found success as a television producer, educator and technologist. An avid student of media and of international relations, Mr. Cox has overseen the development of SportsQuest International from its inception.

Melvin was a member of the Paralegal Studies Faculty (Advanced Computer) at the University of San Francisco from 1991 through 1996. He was honored by the University in 1994 for his outstanding and dedicated teaching service. Between 1991 and 2002, he served as a Technical Support Engineer for Sybase, Inc., a major computer software company.

He is a graduate of Merrill College at the University of California, Santa Cruz; and holds a Certificate in UNIX System Management and Administration from the University of California, Santa Cruz Extension. In December 2000 he was awarded a Diplome D'Honneur by Université Simon Kimbangu in Kinshasa, DR Congo.

Mr. Cox served for several years as a member of the Alameda (County) Steering Committee of the World Affairs Council of Northern California, and was active on the Bay Area Africa Initiative steering committee.

He is the founder of AFRICAN CONNECTIONS (www.africanconnections.com).

The broadcasting portion of Cox’s multifaceted career was launched between 1974 and 1976, during a stint as Television Director for the New Experience Project, a federally funded community journalism project which utilized the facilities of KCSM-TV (PBS), in San Mateo, CA.

Production teams under Melvin’s leadership have to date successfully completed assignments in Canada, Costa Rica, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Germany, Kenya, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, Uganda, The United Kingdom, Zimbabwe and throughout The United States of America. Selected presentations from this body of work have appeared on public television, on the America One Television network, on leased access cable and within multimedia presentations on the SportsQuest International, AFRICAN CONNECTIONS and africast.com web sites.

Cox’s passions include the equestrian sports, teaching, baseball, golf, and travel.

He is the devoted son of the late Melvin L. Cox, and Authorine B. Cox (Mrs. Melvin L. Cox) of Oakland, CA. He is the proud father of Kimberly Rochelle Cox, age 16.
